Tee Off Northern Tasmania's Golf Scene.

Swing. Stroll. Savour.

Northern Tasmania's golf scene is quietly excellent — and with Launceston sitting just 40 minutes down the Tamar Valley from The George, you've got five quality courses within easy distance, from heritage member clubs to a boutique estate round.

The Courses

Barnbougle is bucket-list golf, 45 minutes from The George. Two top-100 ranked courses on one property — the links-style Dunes (designed by Tom Doak) and the equally acclaimed Lost Farm (Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw) — both tumbling through coastal sand dunes onto Bass Strait. Book well ahead. Tee times go fast.

Country Club Tasmania

Country Club Tasmania at Prospect Vale is the resort option — an 18-hole championship course set in parkland alongside accommodation, dining, a driving range and even mini-golf for the non-golfers in your group. Worth noting: a brand new 18-hole championship layout is scheduled to open Summer 2026/27, so this one's only going to get better.

Barnbougle Golf Club

Launceston Golf Club

Launceston Golf Club is where it all started — Tasmania's oldest 18-hole layout, a par-72 stretching across tree-lined fairways with a well-stocked pro shop and practice facilities. Visitors are welcome, and it's just 10 minutes from Launceston CBD. A proper old-school round with a good back nine.

Quamby Estate

Quamby Estate is the wildcard and arguably the most memorable. A boutique 9-hole course near Entally — par 37, tree-lined fairways, lakes, Scottish-style bunkering and the kind of quiet that only a Tasmanian estate can offer. Book ahead, bring a jacket, and enjoy it slowly.

Mowbray Golf Club

Mowbray Golf Club is your friendly local — a 6,000m, 18-hole course in Launceston's northern suburbs with a long history and a relaxed club culture that genuinely welcomes visitors. No pretension, just good golf.

Riverside Golf Club

Riverside Golf Club sits on Launceston's western side with a pristine championship layout, modern clubhouse and a few curveballs for mixed groups — FootGolf and croquet if the swing isn't cooperating. Good facilities, great vibe.

Need Gear?

Every course above has a pro shop for last-minute essentials — balls, gloves, regrips, the works. If you need something more substantial before you head out, Launceston's sporting stores are your best bet for club hire, equipment and accessories.

The Northern Tassie base camp

The George Tasmania is your Northern Tassie base camp. Wake up, check the forecast, grab a coffee from the café bar, and you're on the first tee within the hour. Five courses, zero fuss, and a deck view waiting for you when you're done.

Whatever it is, do it your way.
