Tread Lightly. Live Fully.

A scenic landscape view includes distant mountains, a large body of water, and a sky with scattered clouds. Foreground shows dry, rocky terrain with sparse vegetation and small bushes.

At The George Tasmania, sustainability isn’t a statement or a marketing line — it’s simply the thinking behind how this place came to life.

We created The George Tasmania as an escape from noise, pace, and excess. It never made sense to build something designed for rest and reconnection that asked more of the environment than it gave back.

We’re not perfect — but we believe the attempt is worth everything.

What follows isn’t a checklist or a set of claims. It’s just the way we’ve chosen to do things — quietly, thoughtfully, and with deep respect for this remarkable corner of Tasmania.

At The George Tasmania, even the water tells a story. While our water is delivered to the site, it’s drawn from Tasmania’s own pristine supply — arguably some of the finest drinking water on the planet. Turn on the tap and you’ll understand why locals are so fiercely proud of it.

Our wastewater system is fully self-contained and off-grid, designed so that nothing leaves the property. It’s part of our broader intention to tread lightly and care for the landscape that makes The George Tasmania what it is.

Because this land is not just where we built, it’s the entire reason this place exists.

Off the Grid. On Purpose.

A Bed You Can Feel Good In

We’ve carefully selected certified organic, Fair Trade eco linen, Bhumi and Bedding & Co. bed linen, paired with Tasmanian-made bedding and a locally crafted custom Toledo Tasmanian Oak king bed frame, reflecting the natural beauty that surrounds The George Tasmania.

All linen is laundered using fragrance-free, sensitive, plant-based cleaning products, creating a fresh, gentle sleep environment. A curated hypoallergenic pillow selection is also available, because no two guests rest quite the same way.

Quite simply, the owners of The George Tasmania truly treasure their sleep. Through years of travel, they’ve learned firsthand that a bed, pillows, and a good night’s rest can absolutely make — or break — a holiday.

Because here, rest isn’t just about sleep — it’s about how it feels, right down to the smallest detail.

From the amenities in your Pod to the way we stock our café bar, we’ve chosen materials that can go back to the earth — or back into circulation — rather than a landfill. Our waste systems separate pod and café bar waste, and our compost setup helps return organics to our lawns and future veg gardens.

Even our coffee grounds get a second life. We partner with local business Golden Brown Tasmania, who collect used coffee grounds from hospitality venues across Launceston and turn them into nutrient-rich compost for gardens and soil projects right here in Tasmania.

We know sustainability is a journey rather than a destination — and for us, the conscious attempt is worth everything.

Waste Not. Thoughtfully.

At The George Tasmania, our café bar is, quite simply, a love letter to Tasmania’s makers and growers. Wherever possible, we choose to source, use, stock, and pour products grown, crafted, and created right here on this remarkable island.

Our coffee beans are roasted in the north. Our gins, wines, and brews are proudly Tasmanian. Our ingredients are selected with a strong preference for local producers — not as a trend or a promise, but because the quality speaks for itself.

This isn’t paddock-to-plate as a philosophy. It’s just the obvious thing to do when you’re surrounded by some of the world’s finest cool-climate food and drink country.

Because when Tasmania produces something this good, why would you look anywhere else? 😊🍷

We didn’t leave the city to recreate it on a hill.
The George Tasmania was born from our own burnout to breathtaking story — a deeply personal search for stillness, perspective, and something that simply felt more real.

What drew us here was never just the view. It was Tasmania’s air, its quiet, its extraordinary landscape. These are not resources to be consumed, but treasures we feel privileged to live within.

We believe climate change is real. We believe places like this are worth protecting. And we believe the choices we make today matter for our children and future generations.

Our hope is that The George Tasmania treads gently — through thoughtful design, local sourcing, and a continual effort to minimise our footprint while maximising connection to this remarkable environment.

We also acknowledge, with deep respect, that this country carries over 60,000 years of Indigenous history. We honour the enduring connection of Australia’s First Nations peoples to land, culture, and story — something far older and more profound than our presence here.

Above all, The George Tasmania exists to be a place of calm, kindness, and respect — for the land, for the community, and for every guest who chooses to spend time here.
